I am so sorry to hear about Wilson passing. I never knew him personally - just through his art show, which I still watch today. I feel I learned a lot from his painting lessons and felt like he showed easy ways to approach a subject. I want to pass on my condolences even thought it has been a while since he passed.

My Mom was a Bob Ross fan and watched Bob with my dad and my grandmother for years. Later on I found Wilson Bickford. Soon after we were all watching Wilson paint. I enjoyed watching painting because my parents did. But soon after seeing Wilson paint watching him was something I enjoyed watching too. In fact I always thought it would be nice to meet him some day. I enjoyed his technique but more importantly I liked the man. I still have my DVR set to record his shows. Tonight 5/4/23 I saw a board at the beginning of the show of his passing. I was stunned. I don’t know if it was even shown before but there it was. Another piece of history gone. For the record I haven’t been watching very many of his shows for the past year so like I said maybe it was there before. The reason though is my mom passed away in October 2019 and my father passed away January 2022. It’s been difficult for me to watch because all I can think of is watching Wilson paint with my parents. But tonight I had I wanted to anyway only to find out even he had passed. I. Saddened by this as the leafs of my tree keep falling. RIP IN PEACE MOM, DAD, WILSON. YOU ARE ALL MISSED.

I am so shocked to read this news today. I have learnt so much from him. Since I am from India and could not attend the classes in person his you tube lessons helped a lot. He was so kind he always replied to my texts on Facebook and commented on the art I would paint and tag him. I never imagined I could get an art teacher miles apart sitting in India. While I write this i am so sad and it feels like a personal loss. I am attaching a painting I learnt from him the rose and dew drops... He will never be forgotten. My best wishes to the family. I am shocked and saddened today at the news that Wilson Bickford is no longer with us. He was so very special. As an artist myself, I was so encouraged by his kind words encouraging me with my art. Even though I never met him in person, he had a profound impact on me. I hope all the memories of his beautiful art and his loving, giving spirit will comfort you during this difficult time. Glenda and family,
I was devasted today when I learned of Wilson's passing from the Creative Arts Center in Hopewell, VA, where I was scheduled to attend Wilson's seminar in April. I am so sorry for your loss and your pain. Wilson was one of a kind, and he converted me from acrylic painting to a love of oil painting several years ago when I discovered him on the local PBS station. If not for his easy teaching and encouragement, I would never have attempted oil painting. We corresponded several times through FB, and I have eagerly awaited painting with him in April after having the last two years of Hopewell seminars canceled due to Covid. I almost flew to his Vermont Inn painting weekend this past Fall, but it was an expensive trip for me. I waited too long, but I record all his PBS shows and have several videos. I will continue to paint from them and treasure each one so much. Since I found his series, I have said, "Wilson Bickford could teach anyone to paint," and I have introduced at least two friends to his painting using his videos at our "girls trip weekends" at my cabin in VA. With his videos and using his tools, they turned out nice paintings.
We will continue to paint from his videos every chance we get at our "weekends at the cabin" in honor of Wilson. I am also planting a magnolia tree there in honor of Wilson and the beauty and friendship he shared with the world. He will never be forgotten and lives on as each of his students, teachers, and fans worldwide continue to reflect on him in our art. The world has lost so much with his passing, but it pales in comparison to what you, his family, have lost. Who he was as a person, a husband, a father, and a grandfather was so evident even virtually for those of us who never met him personally. I pray for your strength, hope, love, and peace as you walk this arduous journey. RIP Wilson Bickford, and thanks for making this world a much better place. You are loved and will be greatly missed.

My wife and I send our sincerest condolences. Last year at the age of 68 I started painting due to the encouraging words of Wilson. He gave me the confidence I needed to try something completely new. Any time I passed something on to him via email he was quick to respond and always encouraging.
Wednesday morning and Saturday mornings I looked forward to the painting show to see what the next project would be.
My biggest regret was continually putting off attending one of his classes. I waited to long and so it will never be.
I can't imagine the lives he touched in many ways.

When I met Wilson I was a fairly new artist, having stated at age 62 I was nervous about doing his certification class.
It did not take long for Wilson to make me feel comfortable and a part of his “community or teachers”
He never frowned or made an expression that made you think my works was bad- he would ask thought provoking questions ie what other color would work, have you thought about would you like to try.
After the classes we would all meet in the restaurant and chat and some became fiends.
His wife Glenda took time to make everyone including myself feel special!
Then when I got home, WIlson would always answer my emails, texts or calls.
I would be remiss if I did not thank JD Wayne and Mickey Cline for introducing me to this gentle giant named WIlson Bickford.
Thank you Willie for everything you helped me with along our way to short a journey together.

So sorry to hear of Wilson's passing. Our deepest sympathies to Glenda, Amy and all the family....Alex & Lauren.I first met the Bickfords when I worked with Glenda at GSLA
in Gouverneur in 1994. Wilson accepted to paint a picture of our pets from a photograph; he did an excellent job early in his career. Later, I casually asked him to paint a deer on a tree fungus that I'd found in the woods. He painted the attached item just from his imagination (and his favorite blue background). Such a generous and caring gesture! So blessed to have known Wilson and to visit him and Glenda over the past few years. We will miss him.

The North Country and beyond will miss his many talents and friendship. Thinking of and praying for the family and hoping you are all doing ok. I thought I'd share my favorite memory of Wilson: My cousin, Tammy, and I were so excited to be able to attend one of his painting workshops in Vermont! We were told to bring empty pizza boxes to be able to transport our "masterpieces" back to NY in. We were talking and giggle and excited to get there and ended up being pulled over for speeding. Well, trying to explain to the nice officer why our backseat was full of empty pizza boxes proved to be interesting and the more we talked, the more skeptical he became.... I think all he heard was we needed them to transport paintings......in the end, he did not issue a ticket, and we arrived a bit late to the workshop. While explaining our predicament to Wilson and the entire class, he burst out laughing and dubbed us "Thelma and Louise" which stuck with us the entire weekend. In Wilson's words, we will keep painting. <3

I first met Wilson through the Alexander Art association. We quickly became friends from his energy and skill in art, to his skill as a musician. He was a painter’s painter, always eager to share a skill. He was a warm, generous, genuine person who loved people. Glenda, his bride, and complimented each other. I will miss my friend, Wilson. The treasures he left us with will always be cherished. As one of his Trained Teachers, I will help carry his legacy forward. Our prayers for Glenda, his daughter Amy and the grandchildren. His favorite color, blue.

My heart is breaking for you all. Wilson and Glenda are the nicest people I have ever met. Wilson helped bring me out of my shell through painting, from the first class I took he had me hooked and from that point on I was in a class at least once a month. Even though I never met the rest of his family I kind of felt I did through his bragging of you all, he loved you all so very much. Wilson has left a huge hole in so many hearts. I pray you all can find some sense of peace threw this tragedy he will be missed by many. My sincere condolences, Judy Fraser

Wilson was a special and dear friend. We may not have kept in touch often but Facebook was our way of communicating. We first met at Silver Falls Oregon with the Alexander Art Corporation. I was a certified art instructor with the company and I was truly impressed with Wilson’s passion for art and his passion for life! His wife Glenda is a sweetheart. She took photos of the entire week of painting classes and activities throughout the week. Then put them on disc to send to everyone in attendance. I still have them. Thank you Glenda. I will always cherish the times we shared together, painting, laughing, singing and just sharing those moments together. I shall always remember Wilson. My heart aches. Such a true artist. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Such fond memories of Wilson and Glenda. They worked so well together. She would get his pallets prepared for his classes and set up the easels then it was time to leave to go shopping. Wilson would crack a little joke about what she’d bring back “this time”. I looked forward to his classes each month. I will continue to paint thank you Wilson.

It was wonderful to work with Wilson on our tv show on WKL-tv24. We made over 19 shows that featured his great painting talent. I was so proud to see him gain a larger audience with Public Broadcasting. And what a great musician! Very talented. You were a Good Ol’
Boy !

I am so sorry for your loss Glenda, Amy and all your family. What a wonderful painter and person Wilson was. I attended some of his classes and know many of his students in my area of the north country who will truly miss him and his classes and his humor. Everytime I see a beautiful ski or rainbow, I will think Wilson painted it. A great man gone too soon. He will be so missed every month by his students. Rest in peace Wilson. Linda Duncan
