GOUVERNEUR - The funeral for Barbara Scott will be held at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 10 at 3:00 with Pastor Richard Mayforth officiating. There will be calling hours at the church before the funeral from 1:00 to 3:00. Burial will be in the Edwards Fairview Cemetery. Barbara L. Hosmer Scott, 92, a Gouverneur resident, died on November 7, 2012 at home on Route 58 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Scott was born in Edwards, NY on September 2, 1920 to the late Floyd and Pauline Brown Hosmer. She was the oldest of six children, all of whom predeceased her: William, Virginia (Chilton,) Olive Ann (Hopper,) Floyd, Jr., and Lucille (Pratt.) She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1938. On March 27, 1942, she married Paul R. Scott. They resided at 23 Sterling Street where they raised their family and where Mrs. Scott lived for 60 years, spending each summer at their camp at Sylvia Lake. Mr. Scott, Air Force veteran of WWII, died in 1997. Barbara Scott's survivors include her children: Gary (Linda) Scott, Sylvia Lake and Myrtle Beach, SC; Murray (Dixy) Scott, Canton, NY; Jacqueline (Alex) Koch, Gouverneur; Carol (Frank) Amberg, Gouverneur; Roxanne Tyler, West Monroe, NY; and Mark (Sheree) Scott, Gouverneur. Grandchildren include: Tracey Murray, Jackie McIntosh, Howard Gale, Robyn Wylie; Michelle Roark, Valerie Cooley, Kathryn Scott, Jason Scott; Michal Weaver, Ricky Koch; Tess, Julia, and Zachary Amberg; Justin, Jonathan, Kate, and Max Tyler; and Christopher and Stephen Scott. Also, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband, Mrs. Scott was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Thomas Tyler. Mrs. Scott worked for over 15 years as a school secretary in the elementary libraries at East Side, West Side, and Fowler Schools. She was, for many years, a member of the School Secretaries' organization. She was a 60-year member of her knitting club, played many years in her bridge club, and was the last surviving charter member of the Silas Wainwright VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, serving as its second president and as a member for 68 years. A long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church, she had served as both Deacon and Elder.
