Obituary of Ardis H. Ward

OSWEGATCHIE – Ardis H. Ward, age 95, of Oswegatchie, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Clifton-Fine Nursing Home in Star Lake. There will be a graveside service on Friday, December 12, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oswegatchie Cemetery in Fine, NY. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards. Ardis was born on January 28, 1919 in Canton to the late John and Verda (Gleason) Harrington. She graduated from the Canton High School in 1938 and married Lester "Whitey" L. Ward on December 23, 1945 at the Trinity Methodist Church in Marcellus. Ardis and Whitey lived in Oswegatchie all of their married lives. Mr. Ward passed away on June 14, 1994. Ardis was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 74 years where she served as Associate Grand Warden of the Grand Chapter in 1972, past President and State Officer of the New York State Rural Carriers Auxiliary where she was a member for over 50 years, a former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and was an avid bowler. Ardis was also a member of the Clifton-Fine Senior Citizens, the Clifton-Fine Hospital Auxiliary, the St. Lawrence County Historical Society, and was past Treasurer of the ABW Ministries of the Oswegatchie Baptist Church. She is survived by her niece, Joanne Leroux; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews, and her good neighbors and friends. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lester "Whitey"; her sister, Alisa Scruton; and her brothers, Miles and John Harrington.
