I was sad to stumble onto this today in an annual search for Paul’s parents on my birthday, remembered each year because on my 24th BD Carl and I shared quite an adventure. I knew Paul back then only as a happy youngster full of potential. From his obituary, I see he became the kind of uncommon person I would have expected. I am sorry that he has left the world sooner than one hopes for such good people. If Carl or Jane are reading here, please contact me for a catch-up at jrspen@gmail.com.

Tagel cider and beer brewing, pickup lacrosse games and duck hunting are all fond memories I have of being with Paul. We often brewed beer with the crew at my place in Worcester. Listening to the bubbling of the new batch in the fermenter as we sampled the latest finished batch. The pickup game of lacrosse where Paul said he would be goalie and a high shot resulted in a beating for the bruise he received. Usually short morning duck hunts at Shelburne pond or Memphramagog when we limited out shortly after sunrise.
Paul was a great friend and will be greatly missed.

Anyone looking through this book knew Paul. They also know how giving and generous a person he truly was. But what stood out to me, and what I cherished about him was one, his love of the outdoors and two, his unmatched sense of humor.
Paul and I camped with each other which felt like our whole lives: 4 to 5 times each year. It’s where we both felt most relaxed and at home, and it was while camping, Paul would have me laughing without end. I tried to keep up and at times we came close to a comedy duo.
One example of how Paul made me laugh was on a camping / fishing trip on the St. Lawrence. We had just returned from being on the water on a 90 degree day tired and probably a little dehydrated. I plunked myself down in my camp chair, opened a yogurt and he started the Paul standup…..I laughed so hard, the laugh tuned into a cough and then…I passed out, spilling my yogurt on the ground. When I came to, Paul was looking at me with concern on his face. Then he said “Thank God. I wasn’t about to drag your limp body onto the boat and to the hospital”. From that moment on, when he had me laughing uncontrollably, he would say “Now don’t go spilling your yogurt”.
So many stories and laughs I wish never ended.

I first met Paul shortly after starting work at the Gouverneur Hospital, I had clocked out from work, only to find the battery in my vehicle was drained. Paul, having never met me prior to this point, was kind enough to jump my vehicle allowing me to get home. I was grateful to have known Paul, when I'd see him on nights, he would always greet me with a smile and friendly word. The world is a lesser place without him and he will be sorely missed.

So many fond memories of hunting with Paul and his family over the last 35+ years in so many unforgetable places; Chippewa Bay, Black Lake, Beaver Creek, Lake Champlain, Shelburne Pond and Fish Creek to name just a few. Hard to believe he is no longer with us.
Rest in Peace

I love Paul! One of my favorite people in this world! What a loss for the hospital and his friends and family! My heart goes out to everyone who knew him! My thoughts and prayers are with you all! A memory of mine is he came to my college graduation party and my nieces and nephews attacked him with a sqirt gun. He retaliated with a super soaker! One of my favorite memories in all of my life! He could light up a room in its darkest hour! My deepest condolences! I love you Paul! Will miss our rivalry me as a Bears fan and you as a Packers fan!
