Obituary of Maurice "Sonny" R. Marcellus

GOUVERNEUR – Maurice "Sonny" R. Marcellus, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away on July 22, 2021 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Arrangements with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur are private. Condolences, pictures and memories may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Sonny was born on February 7, 1943 in Macomb to the late Maurice and Thelma (Gordinier) Marcellus. He married Elizabeth "Libby" Ann McNeil on June 13, 1970. Sonny worked construction for various companies before becoming disabled. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice-fishing, and being out in the boat. He loved to garden, sold vegetables, grew giant pumpkins, and even kept gardens at other people's houses. He also enjoyed his lottery tickets and rode his scooter around town until he couldn't physically do it anymore. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Marcellus, three children, Lisa Fuller Pratt, Cathy McDougall, Derrick Marcellus, sister, Norma DeContie, and brothers, Larry and Douglas Marcellus. Sonny is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a grandson, Robert "Bobby" Versailles, sisters, Ruby Commando and Julia Versailles, and a brother, Gerald Marcellus.
