During my time spent at St. Joe Minerals (1973 - 1986 and former Supt. at the Edwards Mine), I was able to know many of the miners and underground crew members. One man stands out: Charlie Given. Charlie was dependable, knowledgeable, well-liked and the absolute "Miner's Miner". He was a magician with a jackleg drill. His talent for working safely and productively was second to none. He was an all around "Good Guy". I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his entire family.

My deepest condolences to all my cousins and Uncle Charlie's relatives. Charlie work very hard at St Joe's with my Dad, George and they put their lives on the line every day to provide for their families. Charlie always showed kindness to children and was gentle and understanding. He and Aunt Donna, who was an exceptionally empathic human being and a good friend to my Mother, Ginny will be deeply missed. I'm sorry for your profound loss. James "Buddy" Kerr

My condolences to the family. I worked with Charlie for many years in the mines. Charlie was always willing to share his vast knowledge of mining with the young guys. I remember when Charlie came back to #4 mine when Pierrepont shut down, and I was training him on the hoist. I loved to hear his stories of when he worked in the Edwards mine with my Grandfather Dan Zeller. Charlie always had a kind word for everyone, may he rest in peace.
