GOUVERNEUR- Margot U. "Muggs" (Griebsch) O'Brien, age 93, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her home under the loving care of her family and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice. Margo's calling hours will be on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Beth Benham of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be private at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Margo was born on December 26, 1919 in Kiel, Germany to the late Ernest E. and Ida K. (Klose) Griebsch. When she was four years old her family moved to the United States where she resided in different locations in New York, mostly in the Capital area, then settling in Rensselaer, NY. In 2006 she moved to Gouverneur to be near family. Margo graduated from Rensselaer High School and then after graduating she took Secretarial Stenographer correspondence training. She worked as a secretary for the New York Central Railroad in Rensselaer near Albany. After she retired, she worked for New York State as a stenographer and also had worked as a teacher's aid in Rensselaer while staying at the family homestead. She married John S. O'Brien in Rensselaer. The marriage ended in divorce. She was a member of the First Church of Albany (Albany's oldest church, which was built in 1642). She enjoyed doing ceramics, needle point and crafts. She made tissue boxes and afghans for Gabriel's Project at the Gouverneur St. James Church. Margo is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Ernest H. and Rena Griebsch of Gouverneur and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Karl K. Griebsch; and two sisters, Luise Moore and Kate Griebsch.
