Shirley, Scott, Lee, and Chris:
We were all greatly saddened by Lacey's passing. He was a great uncle and we have many fond memories of him and times at lake, family reunions and many nights laughing and telling stories at the kitchen table. He will forever be in my memory as the best blueberry pancake cook and the epitome of the true adirondack guy-hat and all. I agree with one of his students, a life well played, coach.
Love, Renee and family.

I just learned of coach Jones’ death. As the father of one of my best friends Lee, I knew Lacy well. He was a wonderful coach with a gentle spirit who influenced the lives of so many. He coached our cross county team our senior year when both Lee and I qualified and attended the state cross country meet. My condolences to all of his family.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to to Mrs. Jones and the Jones family. Coach Jones was a sturdy presence and inspiration to whom all he met and mentored. His friendship meant a lot to me lo these many years since first meeting him at a 1970 wrestling tournament. May this fine man rest in peace.

Long Distance condolences to the Jones family...Coach Jones set the bar for mat excellence- I deeply respected his passion for the sport and tho our 37-year coaching careers never crossed I so respected what he and his Wildcats were getting done north of Section III...he put Section IX on the map for decades and willingly shared his wrestling techniques and philosophy with fellow coaches across the State and beyond,,,that a former Lowville Red Raider, Coach Randy Morrison, would eventually inherit the Wildcat program and carry on the tradition-rich legacy of Coach Jones made his former coach very proud! God took home one of our best... Neal Aubel, Lowville

Coach Jones will remain an icon that demanded the best from you everyday without regard to your sociall or financial status and religious beliefs. He would not accept deviation of principle or integrity to get your absolute best effort in every aspect of your life. His legacy will remain eternal.

My sincere condolences to the family. Nothing but good memories of Coach Jones. I was a sophomore and on the wrestling team when he arrived to teach and coach at GHS. When I look back on those years I’m reminded of an old Chinese proverb that says “When you buy a man a fish, you feed him for a day. When you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” Coach Jones was clearly a practitioner of the latter. My wife Nancy and I were fortunate enough to have maintained a relationship with Coach and his sweet wife Shirley over the years and to have been invited to visit them at their cottage in the Adirondacks. He will be dearly missed. May his memory be eternal... Bruce & Nancy Winters

Shirley and family,
I had the pleasure of working with Lacey at your home on a few occasions. He would light up and smile ear to ear when we would talk about wrestling and sports in general. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Coach was a great guy and good friend. Always had good political talks together . He will be missed but also know that he couldn’t do what he wanted to these last few years. I am just a phone call away if you need anything.

My heart goes out to all of your family and all those that mourn your loss. While I never met you, I know you must have been an AMAZING person, as your namesake is one of the strongest, most caring, and genuine, people I have ever been blessed to work with and even luckier to hold her among my dearest friends, and I know she will continue to make you proud. As you watch over her up there, rest easy, and know that I have her here ;) Sending my heartfelt condolences to you all.......Tj

It was my privilege to get to know Lacey in his retirement years. He was an outstanding supporter of Wildcat Sports, a keeper of traditions, historian of Gouverneur Central School District lore, and a gentleman sportsman for the ages. In his retirement, he continued be a shining example to our students and athletes of what hard work, coupled with intelligence and compassion can do to bring out the best in a team and an individual. Always playing and winning within the rules, no need to bully, taking care of his team and teammates, winning with style, gracious in victory, pull yourself together in defeat, work hard, don’t waste time, honesty, integrity, patriotic, disciplined. Lessons he lived by and taught by example. Rest easy Coach, game well played.
