Obituary of Jason "Jake" B. LaForty

YELLOW LAKE – Jason "Jake" B. LaForty, age 45, passed away on July 7, 2019 at home surrounded by his family and friends. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be no formal service, but his family will share some memories near the end of calling hours. There will be a Celebration of life on Friday at 1:00 p.m. held at the Oxbow Fire Hall. Jake was born on June 6, 1974 in Watertown to Donald Nelson LaForty and Janet Ellen (Freeman) LaForty. He graduated from Indian River Central School in 1993 and married Eva Rice on July 8, 2000 at the "LaForty Country Club". He had worked for Langstaff from 1993 - 1998 installing and repairing conveyers, was supervisor at S.I Handling from January 1998 – September 1999, farmed for his parents from 1999 – 2000, and worked at Genex as a Breeding Program Specialist from August 2000 until he became disabled in February 2011. Jake made everything about his family. He was proud of his children, always had a positive attitude, and loved to laugh and joke. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, sudoku and woodworking. He made several red cedar chests and worked on all sorts of small engines and tractors. His favorite animal was the bald eagle and he loved his German chocolate cake and peanut butter cookies. He also enjoyed giving back to the American Cancer Society by raising and making donations to help others. His survivors include his wife, Eva; his parents, Donald and Janet LaForty; his four children, Stephanie, Brittany, Timothy, and Katelyn; three sisters, Shannon and her husband, Pete Smith, Tabby and her husband, Shawn Fuller, Mo LaForty and her significant other, Randy Sherman; his fur baby, Bella; many nieces and nephews, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.
