MACOMB – Ronald Lawrence Cardinell, 66, the Macomb Superintendent of Highways, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19th at Gouverneur Hospital surrounded by family after battling Pancreatic Cancer.
Born on September 30, 1952 to Marion (LaFave) and Kimball Cardinell, he was raised on a family farm in the town of Dekalb where he attended school. He graduated from Gouverneur Central in 1972.
Ron married Linda Young on July 20, 1973 in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Together they raised two sons, Aaron, 35, and Christopher, 33. He worked several jobs to provide for his family including roofing, milk truck driver and had his own excavation business.
He was the Macomb Superintendent of Highways for over 17 years, devoting much of his time to the job and helping the residents. Previous to that he worked for 25 years on the Macomb Town Highway crew, a total of 42 dedicated years.
Ron enjoyed coffee, conversation and making people laugh with his great sense of humor. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons.
He is predeceased by his parents, Marion and Kimball, three brothers, Donald, Richard and Ernest "Roy" Cardinell.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Cardinell of Macomb, son Aaron and his wife, Jessyca Cardinell and their sons, Jaron, Landyn and Chase of Macomb, son Christopher Cardinell and his son Aiden Cardinell, along with Chris's companion Kylee Bowman and her sons Owen and Trent of Macomb, brother James Cardinell of Massena and sisters Norma Wilmet of Gouverneur and Janet "Punk" Bergeron and her husband Edward of Florida. Ron is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Ron's request there will be no services. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Donations in his memory may be made to the Angelman's Syndrome Foundation.
