Obituary of Janette H. Hight

EDWARDS - Janette H. Hight, age 80, of Edwards, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the University Hospital in Syracuse. Her calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Sunday, February 10th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. with her funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. with Bill Smith and Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Edwards. Janette was born on June 30, 1932 in Edwards to the late Lemuel McKinley and Edith Helen (O'Shea) Chapin. She graduated from the Edwards Central School and married Claude A. Hight on July 24, 1965 with Rev. Stanley Brown officiating. Mr. Hight passed away on July 10, 2005. First and foremost, Janette was a mother and farm wife. Janette had worked as a clerk for Grant's in Gouverneur and Watertown, as well as for Woolworth's in New Hartford. She also worked as a waitress at a diner on the military base in Yuma, AZ. Mrs. Hight retired as a dietary worker for E.J. Noble Hospital. Janette was the most optimistic person you could have met. She was gentle, kind, and a mother and grandmother to all who knew her. Janette loved to cook and bake and didn't mind when the neighborhood kids would raid her refrigerator. Her survivors include two sons, Ronald E. (Wendy) Hight of Gouverneur, Kenneth D. and Chris Hight of Penn Yan; two daughters, Christine H. Backus of Edwards, Kathryn J. (Rick) Towne of Canton; a brother, Lemuel (Sally) Chapin; and two sisters, Jean (Larry) White of N. Syracuse and Mildred Chapin of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Janette is predeceased by her parents; her husband; a sister, Dorothy Chapin; and three brothers, Aubrey, Edwin and Murhl Chapin. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
