Obituary of Pauline M. Hamele

WANAKENA – Pauline "Polly" Hamele, age 95, of Wanakena, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Clifton-Fine Hospital. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wanakena Presbyterian Church with Pastor Pieter Visscher officiating. Burial will follow in the Wanakena Cemetery. Polly was born on July 1, 1923 in Oswegatchie to the late Daniel and Victoria (Gauthier) McBroom. She graduated from the Oswegatchie School. Polly married Keith E. Hamele on September 6, 1941. Mr. Hamele passed away in 2001. Mrs. Hamele worked as the Postmistress of the Wanakena Post Office for many years. She was very active in the Western Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Wanakena where she taught Sunday School, played the organ, and served as an Elder. She cared greatly for other people, knitted many mittens to give away, and was a member of the Birthday Club, the Ladies Aid, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Her survivors include a son and a daughter-in-law, Dick and Jeanne Hamele; 3 grandchildren, Dawn and her husband, Gregg, Becky and her husband, Jeff and M.J.; and 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Meredith, Michael and Nicole. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Darryl, Ann and Mary. Polly is predeceased by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Sandy Conklin; a son, Donald Hamele; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Peggy McBroom; and a niece, Debbie.
