Obituary of Mary R. Flanagan

PYRITES- Mary R. Flanagan, age 74, formerly of Pyrites, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at her daughter's home in Gouverneur under the care of her family and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice. There will be calling hours for Mary on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home in Edwards. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Mary was born on July 11, 1943 in Pyrites, NY to the late Forrest P. and Alice M. (Dafoe) Lottie. She married Clifford N. Flanagan on August 1, 1959 at the Canton Episcopal Church. Clifford passed away on May 6, 2017. Mary worked as a nurses' aide at United Helpers in Canton for 18 years. She had also worked as a care giver. She made many wedding cakes over the years and was always such a giving person. She was always trying to buy things for everyone else. She loved shopping and going for ice cream, but she especially loved taking care of her grandchildren. Surviving are two sons and their spouses, Clifford and Brenda Flanagan and John and Minnie Flanagan; four daughters and their spouses, Patricia Murdock and Chris Backus, Donna and Shawn Miller, Dawn and Francis Cole and Amy and James Belonge; two brothers, Forrest and Rita Lottie and Eric and Jill Lottie; three sisters, Linda Anson, Violet and Larry Platt and Mildred and Arthur Anson; 39 grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Clifford; a sister, Ann Aldridge and two sons-in-laws, Don Williams and Mike Murdock.
