Obituary of Joan Shampine

DEKALB JUNCTION - Joan Ann Shampine, formerly of Dekalb Jct., entered into rest in Roanoke, Va. on January 05, 2013. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Her funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. She was born August 5, 1946 in Gouverneur, NY to Lemuel McKinley Typhair and Irene Carrie Denecia. She graduated from Hermon-Dekalb Central School in 1963. She married Leo Daniel Shampine on March 20, 1965 in the Methodist Church, Canton, NY. They were married until he passed in June 2000 in Georgia. They were blessed with four children Leo Allen & Charlene Shampine of Hermon, David & Serena Shampine of Franklin, NC, Beverly & James Carlin of Martin, Georgia , and Jean Pierre Shampine of Edwards, NY. She had six grand children, Charles Shampine, Jamie Danielle Chapman, Dwight Shampine, Daniel Shampine, James, and Samantha Carlin and she had three great grand children. She also had a special friend, Terry Holmes of Roanoke, formerly of Edwards. She is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, James Typhair, Gouverneur; Marie & Tom McCoy, Rome; William & Martha Typhair, Dekalb; Doris & Ronnie Fuller, Pinehurst, Texas; Mona Taylor, Ogdensburg; and Carol Durham, Canton. She predeceased by her Father, Mother, and brother & sister-in-law Lemuel Albert and Elisa Typhair of El Paso, Texas. Joan was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all. She loved to play cards, crochet, do word puzzles, bake donuts and loved her Country Music.
