Obituary of Isabel Jones

GOUVERNEUR – Isabel Jones, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Isabel was born on January 6, 1938 in Cardinal, Ontario, Canada to the late Albert and Dora Pearl (Workman) Holliday. A marriage to Gary M. Jones ended in divorce. Isabel retired as a stenographer for St. Lawrence County Public Health in Gouverneur. She had previously worked as a secretary for the Canada Starch Company, the Gouverneur Central School, and for the NAVY recruiting office in Gouverneur. She enjoyed making jams with her sister, Jean, playing Bingo, attending the Friday luncheons at the Gouverneur Methodist Church, and travelling all over the world. She was a Life Member of the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County fair and enjoyed attending there every summer. Isabel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Kathy Jones; her granddaughter, Sabrina Jones; and a sister, Jean Thompson. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, David Andrew Holliday.
