STAR LAKE – Lois M. Fairbanks, age 80, formerly of Star Lake, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Crown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cortland, NY.

Her memorial service will be held at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Frances Hemstreet officiating. Burial will be in the Oswegatchie Cemetery.

Lois was born on February 13, 1936 in Star Lake to the late Frank and Lenora (VanCour) Hewitt. A marriage to Frederick Weigand, Sr. ended in divorce. She was widowed by her second husband, Judson Fairbanks.

Lois worked at the Star Lake American Legion, the Information Center and the Town Court in Star Lake and drove many people to their doctor appointments and for treatments. She also supported her family by selling Princess House, Avon, and Mary Kay products and babysitting. In her free time Lois enjoyed camping, fishing, crocheting, spending time with her pets, and planning family gatherings and reunions. She was well known for her peanut brittle and other sweets.

Her survivors include her three sons, Frederick "Skip" Weigand, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda of Hastings, Paul Weigand and his wife, Susan of Tupper Lake, Chris Weigand of Watertown; daughter, Laurie Smith of Baldwinsville; sister, Betty Kerr of Wolcott; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois is predeceased by her parents; her second husband; a brother, Frank "Bucky" Hewitt, Jr.; and two sisters, Lillian Fraser and Anna LaDuc.
