Obituary of Mahlon Butler

GOUVERNEUR- Mahlon "Snowball" Butler, age 84, of Gouverneur, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Calling hours will be on Friday, December 14, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at East Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Online condolences may be made at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Mahlon was born on September 13, 1928 in Canton, NY to the late Karl and Dorothy (Fuller) Butler. He attended Edwards Central School. Snowball married Barbara Ann Fifield on January 15, 1954 at the Edwards Methodist Church. Barbara passed away on September 23, 2011. He worked several odd jobs; worked for Seaway Construction for 4 years; worked for Niagara Falls Dam Construction for 3 years, then farmed in Edwards for 12 years until selling the farm in 1976 and then opened his own antiques business called "Snowball's Shop". Snowball had a good time. He enjoyed life together with his wife and gained his education as he went along with his new hobbies. Snowball is survived by three sons, Mahlon "Tracy" and his wife, Janet Butler of Franklin, KS, David Carl Butler of Gouverneur and Sterling Doyle Butler of Gouverneur; a daughter, Linda Felder of Gouverneur; a brother, Carl Butler of Gouverneur; and eleven grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara; three brothers, Edison, Charles and Tracy; and he had a sister who died at birth.
