Obituary of Elsie M. Fifield

CANTON - Elsie M. Fifield, age 64, formerly of Canton, passed away on December 8, 2012 at the United Helpers Riverledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. Elsie was born on June 29, 1948 in Gouverneur, NY to the late George Henry T. and Elsie M. (Webb) Austin. She attended school in Star Lake. Elsie married Richard J. Fifield Sr. on April 17, 1965 at the East Pitcairn Church with Rev. Elwyn Putney officiating. She worked as a machine operator at the Newell Home Hardware in Ogdensburg for ten years retiring in 2002. Elsie enjoyed reading, playing with the family dog and going camping. Surviving her in addition to her husband of Hermon are three sons, Richard J. and his wife, Janet of Theresa, Samuel J. and his companion, Kitty Schrader of Gloversville and Donald A. and his wife, Tammy of Massena; one daughter, Becky J. Matthie and her companion, Joe Briggs of Canton; three sisters, Sarah McBroom, Nora Finley, and Eva Peck. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elsie is predeceased by a sister, Alice Austin; and her seven brothers, Alvin "Tarz", Aloysious "Pee Wee", Arthur "Art", George Jr., Andrew, Edwin, and Charles. Her memorial service will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
