Obituary of Fred Allen Simmons

GOUVERNEUR – Fred Allen Simmons, age 53, of Gouverneur, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur, on Thursday, June 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Roger Benjamin officiating. Fred was born on June 17, 1962 in Ogdensburg to the late Frederick and Arlene (Hartle) Simmons. After his parents passed away, Fred was raised by Bill and Lettie LaVeck. He graduated from the Gouverneur Central School in 1980 and served in the United States Army. Fred married Tammy L. Kerr on March 10, 1984 in Richville. He had worked the last 26 years for the quarry now known as GardenScape; mostly as a loader operator. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. Fred was a former member of the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department. His survivors include his wife, Tammy; their son, Craig Kerr of Watertown; a half brother, Jim Simmons of Syracuse; and 4 grandchildren, Jaiden, Anthony, Marissa, and Alexis Kerr. Fred is also survived by his parents-in-law, Charles Gaylord and Clarine Kerr; a brother-in-law, Daro Kerr; and sisters-in-law, Amy Fluno, Angela Kerr, Juanita Deloney, and Melissa Norman; and over 20 nieces and nephews.
