Obituary of Richard "Dick" D. Brown

EDWARDS – Richard "Dick" D. Brown, age 85, of Edwards, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton. There will be a graveside service in the Beech Plains Cemetery, Pierrepont, on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Dick was born on July 14, 1930 in Gouverneur to the late C. Donald and Inez (Noble) Brown. He graduated from the Edwards Central School in 1948 and from Canton ATC in 1950. Dick married Barbara Fulton on June 30, 1954 in the Beech Plains Church in Pierrepont. He worked as a farmer and drove school bus for Edwards Central School for 18 years. Mr. Brown also worked for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department for many years and was the Town Supervisor for Edwards for 5 years. Dick enjoyed restoring tractors, especially Ford 8N's and 2N's, camping, and sawing lumber. He was a member and past Master of the Wildwood Masonic Lodge #477, served as the Grand Director of Ceremonies for the 1st St. Lawrence District of Masons, was a member and past Trustee of the Edwards Methodist Church, a member of the Buck Hill Hunting Club, and was a charter member of the Skirts-N-Flirts square dancing club. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Lisa Harriman and her companion, Walt Planty; two sons, Gregory Brown, Douglas and Tina Brown, all of Edwards; a sister and brother-in-law, Constance and Burton McElwain of Potsdam; and 2 grandsons, Seth and Austin.
