Obituary of Irene B. O'Shea

TALCVILLE – Irene B. O'Shea, age 92, of Talcville, passed away on February 2, 2016 at the Clifton-Fine Hospital in Star Lake. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Her funeral will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Edwards. Irene was born on October 18, 1923 in Edwards to the late Luke and Cella (Peabody) Fenton. She married Charles H. O'Shea on March 15, 1942 at the Hermon Methodist parsonage. Charles passed away on May 24, 1989. Irene was always smiling and was an excellent hugger. She enjoyed playing bingo, attending concerts at the Edwards Opera House and shopping at the Dollar Stores. She worked hard around the house and often helped her husband work on cars. Her survivors include a son and his wife, Charles W. and Caroline O'Shea; three daughters, Rosemary Allen, Elizabeth and Hubert Carpenter, Cindy and Gerry Griffin; a brother, Richard Fenton; two sisters, Marie Walsh, and Emma Tyler. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Irene is predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Beverly VanGrol; sons-in-law, Leonard Allen and Wilbur VanGrol; three brothers, Vincent, Glen and Paul Fenton; five sisters, Ella Lincoln, Julia O'Shea, Harriet Simmons, Olive Boyd and Blanche Weir; and two grandchildren, Penny O'Shea and Little Chucky O'Shea. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Edwards Food Pantry or the Edwards Rescue Squad.
