Obituary of Clara E. (Day) Sipher

GOUVERNEUR – Clara E. (Day) Sipher, age 91, passed away on December 25, 2015 at the Gouverneur Hospital. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Orville Eacker officiating. Burial will be in the Hailesboro Cemetery. Clara was born on June 22, 1924 in Gouverneur to the late Tilley and Bessie (Denecia) Perrigo. She attended Gouverneur Schools. Clara married Carroll Day on July 17, 1943 at her parents' home with the Rev. Harold A. Thomas officiating. They were married for 52 years when Carroll passed away on February 16, 1996. She married Erton Sipher and has been with him for 18 years. Clara went to be with the Lord and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She loved her family and friends and seemed to always know someone no matter where she went. She was a 4H Leader for 17 years, teaching cooking and sewing and was a member of the Home Bureau and Stepping Stone Ministries. She loved doing for others, doing crafts, making doll clothes for her dolls, and dancing; especially square dancing. Clara loved going to her home in Zephyrhills, Florida in the winter. Her survivors include her husband, Erton Sipher and his family; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry Atkinson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles "Chuck" and Debra Day, Carl and Alane Day; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Bressette and Hilda Dunn; and a brother and his wife, Edwin and Arlene Perrigo. Clara is predeceased by her first husband, Carroll Day; her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Richard Perrigo; three sisters, Beatrice Goodnough, Shirley Fuller, and Sylvia Donaldson; and two grandchildren.
