GOUVERNEUR – Phyllis A. Skeldon, age 84, of Gouverneur, passed away on December 23, 2015 at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Monday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Frances Hemstreet officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Edwards.

Phyllis was born on July 7, 1931 in Fowler to the late Alwin and Evelyn (Jones) Patton. She graduated from the Gouverneur Central School in 1948. Phyllis married Edmond C. Skeldon on February 11, 1951 at the Gouverneur Baptist Church parsonage with Rev. Ward Crawford officiating. Edmond passed away on May 24, 1997.

Mrs. Skeldon worked as a telephone operator for NY Telephone Company for two years before working as a cashier for the Gouverneur Big M where she worked for 27 years, retiring in 1993. Phyllis loved to play Bingo, go bowling, visit the casino, and to play Scrabble and cards.

Her survivors include two daughters, Marilyn and Louis Byrns, Lora Edmonds; three sons, Terry and Nancy Skeldon, Paul and Angela Skeldon, Brent Skeldon; and four sisters, Sally Chapin, Caroline Swanson, Patricia Patton, and Cynthia Paul. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6great-grandchildren.

Phyllis is predeceased by her husband; her brothers, Dennis and Harley Patton; and a granddaughter, Dawn Byrns.
