Obituary of Franklin Boyd

RICHVILLE – Franklin John Boyd, age 70, of Richville, passed away on November 9, 2015 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery. Franklin was born on December 22, 1944 in Fine to the late David and Nila (Ward) Boyd and lived with the Bullock family in Edwards during his teenage years. He graduated from the Edwards Central School in 1963, attended Canton ATC and graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1975. Mr. Boyd had served in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1966. Franklin married Janet Rastley on July 14, 1984 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. McCaughey officiating. Mr. Boyd worked as a teacher for Morristown Central School for 2 years, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES for 15 years, and for the Gouverneur Correctional Facility for 15 years. Franklin loved spending winters in Florida, going to the horse races, and watching Syracuse basketball and football games. His survivors include his wife, Janet Boyd of Richville; two daughters, Jennifer Boyd of Richville, Katherine and Grant Tarsi of Glasgow, Scotland and New York City; two brothers, Harold and William Boyd; and two sisters, Patricia Rose and Eleanor Boyea. He is predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Earl, Donald, Kenneth, and Leon Boyd; and a sister, Helen Durochie.
