Obituary of Lucy F. Ormasen

GOUVERNEUR- Lucy F. Ormasen, age 89, of Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Gouverneur Hospital. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a private burial at Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Lucy was born on May 10, 1926 in Gouverneur to the late Robert and Jennie (Campbell) Wilson. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1943 and then went on to the Watertown School of Commerce. A marriage to Walter Ormasen ended in divorce. Lucy worked as a secretary for the Gouverneur High School Guidance Office for 23 years until her retirement in 1988. Before returning to Gouverneur in 1965, she had worked in Watertown, NY for 12 years, in Portsmouth, VA, and in the last eight years in Downey, CA. She was active in local, state and national professional secretary associations, where she served in several offices. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and doing genealogy. Lucy also used to enjoy flower gardening, going to Casinos, refinishing antiques, working on ceramics, crocheting, knitting and doing a number of different crafts. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Sonja A. and Richard O. Matott of Russell; a son and daughter-in-law, Arne K. and Debra Ormasen of Bigelow; a sister, Elsie Griffith of Elmdale; a grandson and his wife, Nickolas and Amber Ormasen and two great granddaughters, Taylor and Audrey; and two nieces.
