I am so sorry for your loss. I know I may be a little late, I apologize, but I only heard of this today. I want the family to know that David touched my heart while I was in the hospital and again on the outside. I suffer with the same disease and understand, first hand, how difficult it is to live with. Also, had the honor of meeting David's Dad. He told me how David liked to eat and I could see the love between the two of them. I can see that David had an amazing family. I want the family to know how truly beautiful he was in my eyes. May he rest in peace, he will surely be missed.

Although I had not seen Dave in many years, I thought of him quite often, especially during the football season as I have our 1982 football team picture on the door to what was once (before kids) my "man room."
I was unaware that Dave was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. As a probation officer for several years, I have seen the effects of these terrible diseases on many individuals and their families. His tragic passing struck a nerve as he was a young man cut down in what should have been the prime of his life. If anything, Dave is proof positive that mental illness can and does strike the most physically strong among us.
With all of that being said, I hope and pray that Dave is at peace and his family will find comfort in reflecting upon memories of him as he was during the good times prior to this tragedy.

I graduated with Dave; I didn't know him well then nor really now. We were facebook friends. On my daughter's last visit to the Psychiatric Ward she was in with Dave. He helped her alot; she also has bipolar. It was a new diagnosis and she struggles with it; Dave was patient and kind. I really appreciated it; the struggles has always been hard and most people don't understand.
I'm very sorry you have to go through this; however, as you say, I believe Dave is now pain free enjoying nature with his Dad.

I have tried to write this so many times, but I haven't been able to find the right words to even begin. I realize, now, that there is no right beginning. I am so blessed to have had the time I had with David and share so much with him. I haven't seen him in a very long time, but you don't have to see David to feel his presence. He has always been in my thoughts and in my heart. He has been such a special gift to anyone who has really known him. There's just something about those eyes and that smile that I will always remember until I see him again. I hope he always knew in his heart how much he has meant in my life. He just had such a way of reeling you in for life with his love, compassion, and sincerity (no fishing joke intended with the reeling, but he would like that, I'm sure).
I am, now, a Psych Nurse and know how difficult mental illness is to handle for all of those involved. I will pay tribute to David's life by every day dedicating part of what I do to him in continuing to try to change and improve the views, knowledge and acceptance of mental illness.
God bless all of you, his family, and all of us that were so touched by knowing and loving David. I will miss him and continue to carry him with me in my heart.

There are things that we don't want to happen, but have to accept, things we don't want to know, but have to learn, and people we can't live without, but have to let go. Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory that no one can steal.
We are praying for all of you to find peace during your time of grief. We are so very sorry for your loss.

To the Dodds Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Dave was a great person and friend and we will miss him dearly. I pray he is at peace now and smiling that beautiful smile as he watches over all of us.
He came to visit us just before Rogers passing and I am grateful he came over and we were able to spend that time with him and talk to him. He was always looking out for our girls and would offer to take the boyfriends for a walk if one "misbehaved" lol (always in a loving way) he always was so caring and could always make us smile, he truly was one of a kind and we loved Dave for Dave and never allowed his sickness to sway us from our friendship.
I wish things could of been different for Dave and life not so hard on him. I pray God opened his arms and welcomed his son home and granted him peace finally. RIP Dave we will miss you dearly, God speed my friend. I pray happy memories comfort your family in the days ahead.

David you were a great friend to Ivan and I. You will be greatly missed by our family. We know you are at peace now and we are 100% sure you are getting ready to go hunting with your Dad. May you Dodd's boys up there in heaven teach them all how to hunt, fish and love your families with all your heart like you both did. Rest in peace David and Roger Dodds. Take care of one another up there in the big sky boys!!

Anyone who knew David knew he was troubled. Whoever heard about his travels in recent years probably wondered what made him tick. He certainly did some extra-ordinary things with his extra-ordinary abilities.
In his circle of close friends, he was one way. Outside it, I think he was completely different. Like many, he must have wondered which David he was, and which David he wanted to be.
Not knowing him as well as some others, we shared some really great experiences with him in the outdoors we all love. David had a great heart, and anyone could count on him for help if they needed it.
In his life, he was devoted to family and friends. I know his back really bothered him. Sometimes the fix for the pain is worse than the malady. He was heart-broken over the recent loss of his Dad.
David's Family has earned great respect for being totally honest in reporting his tragic event. I offer them my sincerest condolences.
I wish he had chosen a different path in the end, but I'm very grateful our paths crossed, if only for a while.

Janice, Dean, Sarah, Dawn, and family....we are so sorry for David's passing. He certainly filled his 49 years with a lot of accomplishments and meaningful relations and activities. I know that his close friends will miss his tremendously. I know that he will always be in your hearts and he will be with you in spirit. I believe that those in heaven are aware of what goes on here on earth and sometimes leave subtle signs that they are still with us.
Mental health is a cruel trick that is played on some of us. He can't be blamed for taking his own life. Our bodies are a wonderful miracle but there are still flaws that we have no control over. Just remember that he was here for 49 years and laughed, loved, played, learned and shared his life with all of you.
The hardest part for all of you is that he left so soon after his Dad did. Maybe it was God's plan so they would be together. I know you all will help each other get through this difficult time and you all know that you have friends that love you and are there for you. You can call on us all at anytime. Sometimes we try to give you some privacy time, but we still are here anytime you need us.
We love you all.
.

To the family of Dave,
I am so very deeply saddened by the news. Dave was my son's roommate at one of his hospital stays. I spoke at great lengths with Dave several times. He was an amazing support for everyone around him. There was one night during visiting hours, one of the patients was sitting at a table alone crying. Others tried to talk to her, but she wouldn't respond to anyone. Dave got up, carried over a bible and began to read out loud to her. It was a verse about the light covering the darkness and lifting the pain. You could have heard a pin drop when he was done. Then he put his hand on the woman's shoulder for a minute and got up and walked away. It was a moment of pure peace. I will always, always remember that day. There was something magical about his ability to comfort others. It is so cruel that the ones that can comfort others are sometimes the ones who suffer most. At one of my visits, I had brought him some information on beekeeping. He had told me he was interested in it. His eyes filled with tears when I handed it to him. He was so touched by such a simple act. I love that the family is asking others to pass on the gift of reaching out to others who suffer from mental illness. May the angels of comfort and peace and understanding surround us all as we mourn Dave's time here on earth. May the angels of peace and freedom from pain welcome Dave to eternity.
