Obituary of Chelson G. Putman

MACOMB – Chelson "Stub" G. Putman, age 88, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at home. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. with his funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Beth Benham. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Heuvelton. Stub was born on December 28, 1926 at the family farm in Macomb. He was born to the late Frank L. and Nellie (Drummond) Putman. He was a member of the last graduating class at the Brier Hill High School. Mr. Putman married Vivian Lumley on August 6, 1955 at the Congregational Church in Brier Hill. They owned and operated the Fair Meadow Farm in Macomb for many years. Stub was still active in the farm until 2 years ago, but was still interested in the daily operations. Stub was an avid breeder of Holstein cattle and enjoyed showing them off at the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair where he was a premier breeder and exhibitor for several years. He was a life member of the Grange, the National Holstein-Friesian Association, enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling and spending time at the camp on Black Lake. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Putman; two daughters and their husbands, Aimee and Kevin Bresett, Irene and Leslie Hargrave; a son, David Putman; and 7 grandchildren, Darin and Travis Bresett, Sara Hargrave-Roberts, Chelsea and Jesse Hargrave, and David and Loren Putman. He is also survived by a niece that was raised as a grandchild, Salina Bacon, and several other very special nieces and nephews. Stub is predeceased by his parents and this six siblings; Leslie, Ross, Dale and Kay Putman, Janet Evans, and Dorothy Mayhew.
