Obituary of Roger E. Dodds

Roger Elton Dodds, age 70, of Gouverneur, passed away on July 28, 2015 of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Calling hours will at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with his funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. There will be a reception following the service, to be held at Mullin's Restaurant. Roger married Janice E. Brown on March 23, 1963 at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church with Rev. French officiating. He started work at the age of 17 as a member of the Local 25 Marine Division, as an operating engineer in Buffalo until 1966. Roger then joined the Laborers Local 322 until he became disabled on September 28, 1991. Roger was a member of the North American Fishing Club and the Young County Line Hunting Club #2. He used to raise coon and fox hounds in his early years. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a novice rock hound and loved camping with his family. Roger lived to spend time with his wife, children and family. His dream came true when he traveled to Alaska with his wife and two other close couples for the entire summer. Roger was born on September 19, 1944 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Elton and Florence (Weaver) Dodds. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1962. He played sports under Lacey Jones and Frank LaFalce and played Semi-Pro Football for the Massena Warriors. Roger and his class were the first to be inducted into the Gouverneur High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Gouverneur; two sons and a daughter-in-law David I. Dodds and Dean E. and Sarah Dodds; a daughter, Dawn R. Rajkowski; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Edward Shoff; three grandchildren, Taylor Dodds, Grace and Katie Rajkowski; seven nieces and nephews; and ten cousins.
