Obituary of Wayne S. Shepherd

GOUVERNEUR – Wayne S. Shepherd, age 73, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, July 11th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. His funeral will be on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Lecelle Providence officiating. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Wayne was born on December 8, 1941 in Gouverneur to the late Raymond E. and Ruth F. (Teall) Shepherd. He married Amy J. Empson on June 11, 1960 at the Gouverneur Methodist parsonage. Wayne had worked for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department for a few years before starting work for Cives Steel in Gouverneur. There, he worked his way up from a fitter to working as Supervisor before his recent retirement. Wayne enjoyed tinkering on cars, used to race stock cars, and then did mechanical work for Bud Fuller. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music and watching NASCAR races. His survivors include his wife, Amy; four sons, Michael, Timothy and Wayne Shepherd, and Nicholas "Buggy" Neuroth; five daughters, Jennifer Dusharm, Amanda Neuroth-Shepherd, Bobbie Jo Shepherd, Wendy Shepherd, and Lena Bush; a brother, Raymond Shepherd; and a sister, Sue Aldrich. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wayne is predeceased by his parents; a son, John Shepherd; and a brother, Lynn Shepherd.
