Obituary of Robert E. Sullivan

GOUVERNEUR – Robert E. Sullivan, age 82, passed away on April 2, 2015 at the Gouverneur Hospital. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, 188 Main St., Edwards on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Orville Eacker officiating. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com He was born on December 9, 1932 in Gouverneur to the late Ezra Leon and Caroline (Whitmore) Sullivan. He graduated from Edwards High School in 1950 and served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. Bob worked construction for several years and then attended Delhi Technical College, majoring in Civil Technology. After college he worked for the New York State Department of Transportation until his retirement. From 1965 through 1975, Bob introduced the BMW motorcycles to this area. He enjoyed riding cycles, flying, reading and traveling to many different areas. One of Bob's proud achievements was the erection, construction and remodeling of a previous family farm barn into a home in 1969, which was a first in the area. Another proud achievement was the reconstruction of the Hollow Dam Hydro Plant Site that was built on family owned property, which included years of planning and negotiations. Among his survivors are a son, Steven and his wife, Kim Sullivan of Gouverneur, his grandson, Sean of Gouverneur; his brother, Edward Sullivan of Arizona; and his sister, Hannah Albertson of Rochester. Bob was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Margaret LaRock; and his brother, Richard Sullivan. Donations may be made in Robert's memory to a charity of ones choice.
