Obituary of William Wallace Hurley

TALCVILLE – William W. Hurley, "Wally", age 85, of Talcville passed away on April 1, 2015 at the Gouverneur Hospital. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards, on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. His funeral mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edwards on Tuesday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. Burial in St. James Cemetery will be in the spring. Wally was born on April 9, 1929 in Talcville to the late Francis and Aurore (LaLonde) Hurley. He graduated from the Edwards Central School in 1947. In 1948 he started work for the International Talc Co. He then worked for Gouverneur Talc Co. until 1958. Wally then went to work for the Met Life Insurance Co. and retired after 24 years. After this, he went to work for the Weekes Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1991. Wally was a member of the DADS and VFW of Gouverneur. He enjoyed watching sports and hunting. Mr. Hurley married Shirley Dailey on July 20, 1957 at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur. Shirley passed away on February 27, 2006. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen M. Burns and her husband, Carl of Fowler; sons, Kevin M. Hurley and his wife, Annette, Edwards, Brian D. Hurley and his wife, Dianne of Edwards, and Brent E. Hurley of Fowler. He is also survived by three granddaughters and their husbands, Nicole and Derek Knodt, Meghan and Matthew Young, Meredith and Charlie Burt; and five great grandchildren, Julian, Jack, Rhys and Everly Young and Rowan Burt. Wally is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Shirley, and two sisters who died in infancy. Donations in memory of Wally may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
