Obituary of Robert K. LaVack

GOUVERNEUR – Robert "Bob" K. LaVack, age 85, of Gouverneur, passed away on March 11, 2015 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, 16 Barnes Street, Gouverneur. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Beth Benham officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Bob was born in Gouverneur on September 28, 1929 to the late Fred C. and Doris A. (Puffer) LaVack. He graduated from the Gouverneur High School in 1947 and was a dairy farmer on the LaVack Family Farm in North Gouverneur all of his life. He retired in 2002. Bob loved horses and was a member of the Draft Horse Club. Mr. LaVack married H. Norine Lenahan on August 30, 1950 at the Methodist Parsonage in Philadelphia. Norine passed away on July 8, 2002. Bob married Gloria (Ferguson) Phelps on October 31, 2007. His survivors include his wife, Gloria Phelps-LaVack; a daughter, Cynthia Edwards; a son and his wife, Fred and Melanie LaVack; his wife's children and their spouses, Kathryn and Eric Briggs, Lynette and Art Besaw and Howard and Beverly Phelps and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Norine, Bob is predeceased by two daughters, Catherine and Katherine LaVack; a son, James LaVack; and his brother, Frederic LaVack.
