Obituary of Paul F. Byrns

GOUVERNEUR- Paul F. "Barney" Byrns, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, December 15, 2014. Calling hours for Paul will be on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. His funeral service will be on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Beth Benham officiating. Burial will follow at East Riverside Cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Paul was born on April 18, 1936 in Gouverneur to the late Alton B. and Cecile M. (Fullington) Byrns. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1954, where he was an avid wrestler and football player. After high school, Paul entered into the United States Army and served the 508th Airborne R.C.T. Red Devils until his honorable discharge in 1958. Paul worked for St. Joe Mineral for over 20 years and then drove tractor trailer for Anchor Motor Freight and then for C.W. Green. He was a life member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and making maple syrup. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and William Aungst of Buffalo; two grandsons, William Paul and Joseph Clarence Aungst and a great granddaughter, Sophia Marie Aungst. Paul is predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard A. Byrns, who passed away in 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, P.O.
