Obituary of Hazel Elizabeth McDonald

EDWARDS – Hazel Elizabeth McDonald, age 74, formerly of Edwards and Oswegatchie, passed on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.
Her funeral service will be private. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Hazel was born in Carthage on October 19, 1940 to the late Irwin James and Laurestein (Bigelow) Stevens. She attended the Richville High School. Hazel attended Canton ATC pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. She worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant for many years at the E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur and retired from the Carthage Area Hospital.
Hazel married David W. McDonald, Sr. on August 14, 1958. The couple lived in Edwards and retired to Oswegatchie. David passed away on May 26, 2014.
Hazel was a talented seamstress and an accomplished crafter. With the biggest of hearts; she was a friend, a wife, a mother, a grandmother.
Her survivors include three daughters, Peggy and Ralph McGill of Winchendon, MA, Terry McDonald-Burr of Gouverneur, Kimberly Allen of Watertown; four sons, David McDonald of Star Lake, William "Bill" McDonald of Russell, Gregory McDonald of Tupper Lake, and Jeffrey McDonald of Massena. She is also survived by a brother, Irwin "James" Stevens of DeKalb Jct.; a sister Sue "Suzie" Smith of N.C.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband; a sister, Lucy Smith; and three brothers, Arthur Bigelow, Donald "Bubby" Stevens, and Dexter Stevens.
