RUSSELL- Richard J. Fifield, Sr., age 73, of Russell, NY passed away on September 14, 2014 at his son's home in Gloversville, NY.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards with Rev. Mark Gilbert of the Pitcairn Wesleyan Church officiating. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Richard was born on July 2, 1941 in Potsdam, NY to the late Leon and Olive (Bradley) Fifield, but he was raised by his aunt and uncle. He attended Knox Memorial in Russell, Lowville and Watertown schools. In 1963 he entered into the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1964. On April 17, 1965 he married Elsie M. Austin at the East Pitcairn Wesleyan Church with Rev. Elwyn Putney officiating. Elsie passed away on December 8, 2012.

Richard worked at Newell's Home Hardware in Ogdensburg as a watchman and janitor. He enjoyed going camping, fishing, working on cars and trucks and he enjoyed dancing.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Richard J. and Janet of Santee, SC, Samuel J. and Kitty of Gloversville and Donald A. and Tammy of Massena; a daughter and her companion, Becky J. Matthie and Joe Briggs of Canton and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Richard is predeceased by a brother, Roger Fifield and a sister Audrey Premo.
