Obituary of Helen L. McIntosh

FINE – Helen L. McIntosh, age 91, of Fine, passed away at home on Friday, October 24, 2014 under the care of her loving family and Hospice. There will be a graveside ceremony held in the Garrison Cemetery in Pitcairn on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Helen was born on January 22, 1923 in Woods Mills, NY (now part of Fort Drum). She was the oldest child and only daughter of her parents, the late Howard and Sylvia (Dimock) Dusharm. She grew up in Alpine, NY and attended school at Rice's Corners and the Gouverneur High School. She married Donald "Reg" McIntosh on March 30, 1940 in Spragueville with Rev. Daisy Harvey officiating. The couple lived in Gouverneur before moving to Fine in 1956. Donald passed away on February 25, 1983. Helen worked as a nurse's aid at the Clifton-Fine Hospital in Star Lake for 27 years before her retirement in 1987. Working on night shifts, she taught a lot of the girls there how to knit and crochet. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Bruhn of Wisconsin, Ann Lashomb of Massachusetts; a son, Philip McIntosh of Fine; and a brother, David Dusharm of Theresa. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband; a son, James McIntosh and four brothers, Lawrence, Clyde, Wesley, and Lester Dusharm.
