DEPEYSTER - Cephas W. Gibbons, age 78, of Depeyster, passed away on February 19, 2014 at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. His graveside service will be held in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Clare on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with the assistance of Elmer Denesha. Cephas was born on July 10, 1935 in Russell to the late Chauncey and Dorothy (Gilman) Gibbons. He attended the Knox Memorial High School and married Christine Perry on June 15, 1962 in Rochester. Mr. Gibbons worked on his parents' farm until the age of 27. He then began working in the woods during the winters as a timber wolf and worked construction jobs during the summer months. Cephas and Christine lived in Rochester for a couple of years before moving to Heuvelton and then to Depeyster around 1966. Cephas enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. His survivors include his wife, Christine; three daughters, Julie and Craig Cullen of Florida, Teresa Gibbons of Norfolk, Roberta and Steve Jenne of Norfolk; a son, Scott and Susan Gibbons of Canton; and four grandchildren, Christy Jarvis, Garrett Cullen, Kayla Cullen and Cody Jenne. He is predeceased by his parents and a son, Chad W. Gibbons. Donations in memory of Cephas may be made to the Heuvelton Fire and First Responders, 95 State Street, Heuvelton NY 13654.
