Obituary of Charles R. Hooven

CRANBERRY LAKE – Charles "Chuck" R. Hooven, age 71, passed away on January 9, 2025 at his home under the care of his loving family and hospice.
There will be visitation held at the Western Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Star Lake on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Marti Montovani. A luncheon will follow at the Cranberry Lake Fire Hall. Burial in the Cranberry Lake Cemetery will be at a later date. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Chuck was born on June 27, 1953 in Star Lake to the late William G. and Evelyn (Fletcher) Hooven. He graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School in 1972 and earned his Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from North Country Community College in 1974.
Chuck married Mary O'Brien on January 5, 1980 in Star Lake at the Western Adirondack Presbyterian Church. He worked for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for over 20 years, leaving as a supervisor. He then worked as supervisor for McAdam Cheese in Heuvelton and for Mead-Westvaco before retiring due to disability in 2008. Mr. Hooven also acted as the Clifton Town Supervisor for 35-plus years.
Chuck was a member of the Cranberry Lake Volunteer Fire Department, an Elder on the Session of the Western Adirondack Presbyterian Church, was on the Clifton-Fine Hospital Board for 35-plus years, and the Clifton-Fine Fish and Game Club. He was an avid sportsman who loved being in the woods, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hooven, a son, William "Will" C. Hooven and his wife, Susan Scharpf, siblings, Jackie Capurso, Bill and Cindy Hooven, and David and Ruth Hooven, four grandchildren, Aiden, Fletcher, Rosie, and Willow, and his nieces and nephews.
Chuck is predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn Hooven, and a son, Michael Hooven.
