Obituary of Mildred L. Goodheart

EDWARDS – Mildred L. Goodheart, age 103, of Edwards, passed away on December 24, 2024 at United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Edwards. Mildred was born in Talcville on April 2, 1921, the youngest of four children of William and Lena (LaRock) Lennox. She went to grade school in the old Edwards School which was located on Main Street where the Historical Association now stands. She entered the then new school building on Trout Lake Street in her junior year. She graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1939. She married Frederick Goodheart on December 31, 1939. Mr. Goodheart was killed in a mining accident on June2, 1956. Mildred worked at the Edwards I.G.A. for a couple of years before becoming the Librarian in 1959, a position she held for 32 years. Among her accomplishments as Librarian was the formation of "Story Hour", a weekly program of reading and games for preschoolers. Mrs. Goodheart was a member of the Edwards United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed reading. Her devotion to her family is the defining factor of her life. We are all eternally grateful for her love. Her survivors include her sons, William and Sherry Goodheart of Edwards, Keith Goodheart of Clifton Park, four grandchildren, Anthony Goodheart, Amanda and William Sofko, Jr., Bryan and Robin Goodheart, Denise and Gary Bullock and four great-grandchildren, Pierce and Hannah Sofko, Cailin and Sean Tozier, Camryn Bullock and Amanda Deryke. She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick, sister, Ethel Kerr, brothers, Frederick and Charles Lennox, and daughters-in-law, Martha and Nancy Goodheart.
