Wayne Abram Burr died on Sunday, May 19th at the Adirondack Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife Irene Olive Wood Burr, who passed away on May 9th 2013. Born in Gouverneur on July 10, 1943 to Velva (Peggy) Brabaw and Robert Burr, Wayne attended Clifton Fine Central Schools before enlisting in the military in October of 1961 and serving multiple tours in Vietnam. He was medically retired from the Army in May of 1980.
Wayne is survived by his daughter Deneen Burr Homer and her husband John Homer of Dexter New York and his son Gordon and his wife Wendy Woods Burr of Chesapeake Virginia. He has four grandchildren: Dalton Homer and his partner Nicole O'Connor of Fowler NY, Mallory Homer of Dexter, NY, Shawn Burr and his wife Paige Wiggs Burr of Virginia Beach VA, Kayla Burr Lewis and her husband Randall Lewis of Virginia Beach VA. Wayne also has three great grandchildren: McKenzie Wiggs, Leila Burr and Maddox Burr of Virginia Beach. Additionally, Wayne is survived by his sister Peggy-Ann Burr Kerr and her husband Richard Kerr. He was predeceased by his sisters Holly Burr Willard, Susan Burr Doran, and Roberta Burr Provost.
Wayne enjoyed traveling, outdoor activities and most of all spending time with his family. Wayne's family will celebrate his life in the summer and details will follow from his children. Donations may be made in his name to the disabled American veterans or Adirondack health foundation's cornerstone campaign.
