NEWTON FALLS – Morton "Mort" A. Swinyer, Jr. age 63, of Newton Falls, passed away at home on May 16, 2024 under the care of his family and hospice.



There will be a Celebration of Life held at the American Legion Post #1539 in Star Lake on Sunday, June 2, 2014 starting at 5:00 p.m. Arrangements are with French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.



Mort was born on March 27, 1961 in Canton to the late Morton Swinyer, Sr. and Shirley (Smith) Swinyer. He married Lauren A. Laframboise on July 13, 2018 and had worked as a truck driver for many years before retiring due to disability.



Mort was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #1539 for 14 years, where he served as Sergeant of Arms. He became an ordained minister on February 27, 2023 and worked diligently on his self-organized "neighborhood watch", keeping tabs of the comings and goings around the neighborhood. Mort enjoyed vintage sports and muscle cars, his Harley Davidson, keeping his yard nice, and playing in the shuffleboard tournament at the Legion. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting.



He is survived by his wife, Lauren Swinyer, daughters, Yesenia Swinyer and Lana Swinyer and her fiancé, Chase, his step-children, Richard Tomasso and Appollonia French, 7 grandchildren, and siblings, Daniel and Marge Swinyer, Melissa Thivierge, and Robin Coller. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.



Morton is predeceased by his parents, Morton and Shirley Swinyer, and brothers, Ronald and Gordon Swinyer.
