GOUVERNEUR- Sheryl E. Simmons, age 69, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on December 13, 2023 at Canton Potsdam Hospital. There will be calling hours for Sheryl on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. There will be no funeral service. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Sheryl was born on November 15, 1954 in Wellsville, NY to the late Earl J. and Alice C. Burgess Miller. She attended Gouverneur Central School. On August 26, 1972, Sheryl married Herbert Lester Simmons. Lester passed away on February 18, 2023. Sheryl worked as the Village Clerk and Treasurer for the Village of Gouverneur for almost 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family; going to the casino and collecting Native American figures. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Terry J. "TJ" and Trina Simmons and Andrew S. and Joani Simmons; a step daughter, Pamela Reynolds; a brother, Steven E. Miller; a sister, Sally E. Miller-Holland; and her loving grandchildren, Jessica, Justice, Piper, Sully, Sueprena, Tricia, Janessa and Jerome and great grandchildren, Kaylin, Maddie and Autumn. Sheryl is predeceased by her husband, Lester; her mother, Alice C. Miller-Berry; her father, Earl J. Miller; step father, James F. Berry; and two brothers, Samuel E. Miller and Stewart E. Miller.
