Obituary of James E. Finton

GOUVERNEUR- James E. "Jim Bob" Finton, age 74, of Gouverneur, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Gouverneur Hospital. There will be calling hours for Jim on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. There will be a gathering at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge following the calling hours. On Tuesday, October 24th there will be a graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Richville at 12:30 p.m. with Military Honors. Condolences and photos may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. James was born on January 2, 1949 in Cortland, NY to the late Franklin and Alice (Seamans) Finton. He attended school in Dryden, NY and then entered into the United States Army in 1969 and served until his honorable discharge in 1971. Jim married Joanne O'Donnell on August 23, 1975 at the Brasie Corners Church. He worked as a welder for CIVES Steel for 42 years. Jim was a member of the National Riffel Association and he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. Surviving is his wife, Joanne; four sons, Dale and Heidy O'Donnell, Chad and Jessica Finton, Cody Finton and Nicholas O'Donnell; four daughters, Jessica and Scott McIntyre, Jenelle and Jason Fuller, Jamie Finton and Travis Mousaw and Morgan O'Donnell; a sister, Janet Marshall; fourteen grandchildren, Kaylee and Aaron Pierce, Kasey (Michael), Reilly (Kate) and their mother Lori, Kyler, Aaliyah, Jayla and their mother Krissa, Garrytte, Gage Baylee, Ian, Alexander, Emmett, Julia, Mychal, Rorey, Jakob, Danica and Secret; six great grandchildren, Katherine, Keagan, Walter, Ivy, Rascoe and Parker. James is predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Spano.
