Obituary of Viola M. Finley

NORTH GOUVERNEUR- Viola M. Finley, age 83, of North Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at her home under the care of her family, personal attendants and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Viola's calling hours will be on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Lay Speaker, Al Netto officiating. Burial will follow at East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Vi was born on March 23, 1930 in Evans Mills, NY. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Clara (Lawton) Cunningham. She graduated from Evans Mills High School. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and previously worked at both The House of the Good Samaritan and Mercy Hospital in Watertown, NY. She married Roger Finley on August 28, 1964 in Theresa, NY. Mrs. Finley enjoyed cooking, quilt making and volunteer work. Vi was a past member of the North Gouverneur Methodist Church, Maple Producers Association and E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Roger and eight children. Four sons, Ronald and Carolyn Ault of Theresa, NY, Terry and Tina Ault of Dexter, NY, Larry Sauve of Anchorage, Alaska and Joseph Sauve of Ogdensburg, NY; four daughters, Cathy and Barry White of Evans Mills, NY, Cheryl and Christopher Gaw of Apex, NC, Deana and David Shepard of Gouverneur, NY and Tammy Finley and John Smithers Jr. of Gouverneur, NY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Viola is predeceased by her siblings, Harry Cunningham, Richard Venton and Shirley Crump and a daughter, Judy Colwell.
