ALEXANDRIA BAY/GOUVERNEUR- Colleen E. McCarthy, age 36, of Alexandria Bay and formerly of Gouverneur, passed away on April 10, 2013 at her home after a long and brave battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. Colleen's calling hours will be on Monday, April 15, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 16th at 2:00 P.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, James Street, Clayton with Fr. Arthur LaBaff officiating. Online condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Colleen was born on February 11, 1977 in Gouverneur to Peter J. and Susan E. (Bogardus) McCarthy. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1995, and graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Cappa from Wells College with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology in 1999. In 2002 she graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Masters Degree in School Counseling. Colleen married Timothy Bashaw on August 4, 2001 in Cape Vincent at his brother's home. Colleen was the office manager at Kelly Services in Potsdam from 1999 until 2002, worked in career counseling at St. Lawrence University from 2002-2003, and was a guidance counselor at Gouverneur Middle School and High School from 2003-2013. Colleen was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clayton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, craft projects, her dogs, spending afternoons at Hickory Lake, boating on the St. Lawrence River and spending time with her beautiful daughter. Colleen will be missed by her husband Timothy Bashaw and her daughter Brynn at home; her parents, Peter and Susan McCarthy of Gouverneur; two sisters, Patricia of Albany and Megan and her fianc, Lance Whitton of Gouverneur; her uncle Peter and Penny Bogardus of Fowler; two maternal aunts, Annetje Griffin of Gouverneur and Sarah and Jeff Wiggins of Somerville, SC; four paternal uncles, Judson and Debbie McCarthy, Joe McCarthy, Mike and Meggie McCarthy of Penn Yan and Matthew McCarthy of Watertown; two paternal aunts, Karen Raulston of Penn Yan and Susie MacConkey of Rochester; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
