Obituary of Maurice J. Chatelain

NEWTON FALLS- Maurice "Moe" J. Chatelain, age 93, of Newton Falls, NY passed away on December 27, 2023 at Clifton-Fine Hospital. In keeping with Maurice's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a military graveside service in the spring held in St. Hubert's Cemetery. Maurice was born on November 30, 1930 in Newton Falls, NY to the late Percy and Sophie Chatelain. He attended school in Newton Falls. He served in the Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge and worked as a pipe fitter for J&L Steel for 24 years. Moe was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing and playing hockey in his younger years. Moe was a very sociable person. He enjoyed riding around the neighborhood in his wheelchair, chatting with anyone and everyone. Surviving is a son, Robert Chatelain; three daughters and their spouses, Brenda and William Reil, Debra and John Leroux and Kathy and Robert Rowney; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephew. He is predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Donald Chatelain, and two sisters, Cecile Hosmer and Eileen LaDuc.
