EDWARDS – Donald R. Wayering, Jr. age 73, passed away on April 4, 2026 at home under the care of his family and hospice.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in the South Edwards Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Don was born on August 23, 1952 in Utica to the late Donald R. Wayering, Sr. and Patricia M. (Jockimo) Wayering. He graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School in 1972 and earned his Associate degree in Criminal Justice from North Country Community College. Don was an avid target shooter and enjoyed hunting and being on the water in Wanakena. He was a long-time member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge.

He married Mary Jean Hunter. Together, they had their son, Donald C. Wayering.

Don had worked for the Saranac Lake Village Police Department joining the St. Lawrence County Sheriff Office where he worked for 10 years. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers local 158 until his retirement.

He is survived by his son, Donald C. Wayering, his long-time companion, Shirley Sullivan, a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Karen Wayering, and cousin, Susan (Larry) Parker and their family.

Don is predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter, Adelyn "Addie" Mae Wayering.
