RUSSELL – Darrell F. Given, age 78, of Russell, passed away on February 17, 2026 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. There will be no service. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Darrell was born on August 19, 1947 in Canton to the late Howard and Pauline (Strate) Given. He graduated from Knox Memorial School in 1967 and served in the United States Army in Vietnam from November 2, 1967 until his honorable discharge on June 5, 1969.

On August 2, 1975 he married Suzanne I. Finley at the Edwards United Methodist Church. Darrell began working at J&L Steel as a laborer before working for St. Joe Mineral Corp as a miner. He briefly worked in Corrections for St. Lawrence County before returning to St. Joe. Darrell later worked on Fort Drum building housing and ended his career with Mitel in Ogdensburg, working in assembly and then maintenance, retiring due to disability.

Darrell loved being outside, watching birds, making maple syrup, and hunting. He liked to have a beer (or two) with his boys on the weekends, going to Fenlong's and working on old tractors, and most especially, loved spending time with his family. He was a former member of the Russell Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne I. Given, four children, Bryan F. Given (Scott Cardinell), Dawn I. Given, Gregory J. Given, and Andrew J. Given (Sudie), two sisters, Virginia Kerr and Evangeline "Van" Soper, and in-laws, Frederick Finley, Kim Ferguson (Mike), and Donna Finley-Donahue (Jean). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Landon J. Given, Braelyn L. Given, Chance M. Cardinell, Cambree C-I Given, William J. Given, Callie Rose Given, and Alexander S. Forsythe (Naomi), three great-grandchildren, Evelyn M. Deshane-Forsythe, Harper J. Forsythe, and Weston J. Given, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Agathlyn Thomas, Edwina Miller, and Charles, Howard, Hazen, Wilfred, and Herbert Given.
