GOUVERNEUR- Clarence "Clem" J. McAdam, age 94, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at his home.

Clarence was born on January 23, 1932 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Charles and Mary (Lawrence) McAdam. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1950. Clem married Patricia Patton in 1952, the couple divorced in 1970. He married Dora Frawley on January 30, 1972 at the Richville Church with Rev. William Masters officiating. Clarence and Dora just celebrated 54 years of marriage. Clarence had worked at the St. Regis Paper Mill and then the International Paper Mill in Deferiet for 33 ½ years.

Clarence was a member of the Gouverneur Masonic Lodge. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, making maple syrup and bee keeping. He and Dora were world travelers and enjoyed their many adventures around the world. Clem was instrumental in building the sugar shack at the St. Lawrence County Fair. He also played the mandolin guitar, harmonica, banjo and the fiddle and belonged to the Thousand Islands Bluegrass Preservation Society and he played in the Mattoon Creek Band.

Surviving is his wife, Dora; four sons, John, Matthew (Brenda), Robin and Mark (Sue Ellen McAdam; two daughters, Peggy (Mark) Cambridge and Sherri McAdam (Randy Vinson); a step son, Bion Dalton; two step daughters, Norma (Robert) McAdam and Karin Lucus; Foreign Exchange Student, Daniel Placci of Argentina; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Donald McAdam, Paul McAdam, Charles McAdam Mary Martin and Charlotte Seaman and half siblings, Margaret and Helen.

There will be calling hours for Clem on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. His funeral service will be on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Gouverneur Community Center with Pastor Orville Eacker officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery will be at a later date.
