GOUVERNEUR – Lawrence "Larry" Dowe, age 79, of Gouverneur, passed away on January 30, 2026.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. After the funeral service, there will be a reception held in the basement of the Trinity Episcopal Church. Larry was born on July 18, 1946 in Ogdensburg to the late Richard and Hazel (Madore) Dowe. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and earned his Associate degree in Liberal Arts from Mater Dei College. Larry proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for four years.

He married Laura Grennon who predeceased him. He married Diane Neuroth on November 8, 1981. Mr. Dowe worked as a Sheriff Corrections Officer at the St. Lawrence County Jail for 25 years. He was the first person to retire with all 25 years working inside the County Jail. After his retirement he worked as an Access Control Officer on Fort Drum for 5 years.

Larry had a passion for raising and showing Toggenburg Goats. They truly were his home life. He and Diane also enjoyed home baking and selling their products at the Farmers' Markets in Gouverneur, Watertown and Canton. Larry was known for his homemade breads.

Larry is survived by his wife, Diane Dowe, two children, Christopher (Michele) Dowe, Ruth Michel, a sister, Rita Armano, and two grandchildren, Peris and Havanna.

He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife, and a son, Benjamin Dowe who passed away in 1989.
